Dances of Nepal
Nepal is home to the world's highest peak, the summit of Mount
Everest, but culturally and more importanly, is the sacred nature
of these impressive mountains, which have been a place of hermitage,
pilgrimage, transformation and enlightenment since divinity began.
Nepal is also where the Lord Buddha was born and where the arts
and culture are preserved in the temples and pagodas. It is also
a land of colourful festivals, music and dance, a living cultural
museum.
Most Nepalese dances are all strongly tied to the ritualistic worship
of divinities, such as Kumari, Bhairavkali, Manjushree and Ganesh.
However, Nepal being a land of multi- dimensional beauty, it gives
voice and form to its inner-being in a variety of folk and classical
dances. These dances are interwoven with the joys and sorrows from
the different ethnic communities that constitute the population
of Nepal.
The movements, mudras, unique energy and atmosphere of each dance,
together with their ornamental costumes, open many avenues of perception
and understanding.
Learning the sacred, folk and classical dances of Nepal is a truly
creative way to unleash your divinity and harmonise your being.
Courses are instructed by both Suresh P. Mishra and Meena Mishra
and offered to beginners and those already in the field of dance.
The period of availability of the student, their ability and commitment
dictates course length, frequency of instruction and selected dances.
